Focus Pet: the Pomodoro timer where focus raises a pet

What Focus Pet is

At its core Focus Pet is a timer. You choose an interval, you put the phone down, and when the interval completes the app pays you. The difference from a stopwatch is what the payment buys: a pet that visibly levels up, a room that fills with things you chose, and a streak counter that has something to lose.

That loop exists because plain Pomodoro apps have a well-known failure mode. The technique works, but the app gives you nothing at the end of a session except a chime. There is no record that accumulates and no reason the next session should happen. Focus Pet is built to close that gap — the reward is small, immediate, and it compounds.

How a session works

You pick an interval, optionally attach a task or a focus tag to it, and start. Seven presets ship with the app:

• 1 and 5 minutes — deliberately tiny. For the days where the only goal is to start at all.
• 15 and 25 minutes — problem sets, flashcards, past papers. 25 is the standard Pomodoro block.
• 30 and 45 minutes — reading, revision notes, essay drafting.
• 60 minutes — long-form writing and work with heavy context. Or set any custom length you like.

Completing the session pays 2 coins and 2 XP per minute— doubled to 4 coins per minute on Premium. Leaving early forfeits that session's reward. Nothing you already own is taken away — the cost of breaking focus is the session you were in, not your collection.

The pets

There are ten released pet types — cat, dog, penguin, lion, panda, dino, hamster, squirrel, bunny and hedgehog — with twenty-two colour variants between them, plus a fox and a lamb already marked coming soon. XP moves a pet through three evolution stages:

• Baby — up to level 5
• Young — levels 6 to 9
• Adult — level 10 and beyond

The pet's appearance changes at each stage transition, and pets react to your activity with moods and animations. Levels keep climbing past Adult: a level 12 pet stands for roughly 75 hours of real focus.

This is the one rule the app will not bend — coins never buy levels. Coins buy pets, variants, furniture and backgrounds; only focus time raises a pet. That separation is what makes a high-level pet on the leaderboard mean something.

Habitats and furniture

Coins buy seven habitats, ranging from a cozy room to a space station. Inside one you place furniture, pick backgrounds, and unlock perks that grant XP or coin bonuses. It is the long-horizon goal that sits behind the daily loop: a single session earns a small amount, a month of sessions furnishes a room.

Streaks, challenges and Streak Shields

Daily challenges and weekly goals pay bonus coins on top of session earnings. A streak counts consecutive days with completed focus time.

The part worth knowing about is the Streak Shield. A shield covers a day you miss, so a long streak survives one bad day. Shields are earned by watching a rewarded ad, and Premium subscribers use them without ads. Streak systems without a mechanism like this tend to end the same way: a user misses one day, the counter resets to zero, and they stop using the app entirely.

Tasks, habits and sounds

Focus Pet also carries a task list with scheduled push notifications and recurring habit tracking with its own streak counters, so focus time, to-dos and routines live in one app rather than three.

Five ambient soundscapes are available during sessions. Rain and Forest are free for everyone. Café, Lo-fi and White Noise unlock with coins from the Shop or come included with Premium.

What is free and what Premium adds

The app is free to download and the full loop — timer, pets, evolution, habitats, streaks, tasks, habits — works without paying. The free version shows ads, and some sounds and cosmetics sit behind coins.

Focus Pet Premium is a subscription that adds:

Shared rooms, friends and the leaderboard

Focus sessions do not have to be solitary. Open a shared room and others join the same session in real time — the host arranges the space and every guest sees the same room while the timer runs. Room blocks are 25, 45 or 60 minutes with 3, 5 or 10 minute breaks.

Alongside that there is a friends list and a weekly leaderboard. Your public profile shows your highest-level pet, which is why the coins-never-buy-levels rule matters: the ranking reflects hours focused, not coins spent.

Your account and your data

Focus Pet requires an account. Your sessions, pets and progress are kept on your device, so the timer keeps running when the connection drops, and they can be backed up to the cloud and restored on a new device. Your profile, username, friends and rooms are stored in the cloud, because the leaderboard and shared sessions cannot work otherwise.
